Biren Shah came to interior design from an engineering background. As per the initial plan, studied Electronics engineering and joined family business of national repute — an engineering company named as Kamal Metal Industries which was founded in 1960’s, (kmi testing machines) and pioneer in manufacturing tensile testing machines in India.
Company is having other product manufacturing range as — high speed needle looms, UTM’s up to 100 ton capacity and other textile testing machinery.
After working for almost 10 years in family business felt that something was missing in life and there was no enough work satisfaction or joy of own creation.
Leaving the own family business company which is pioneer in manufacturing Tensile testing machines in India and having client base of more than 30,000 (Way Back in 2005) was indeed a difficult decision but finally decided to move on and pursue something in the field of interior designing which was the interest field from beginning.
His journey into design began when he completed his diploma in interior designing from a private institute and joined his sister, Manisha Shah, in her growing interior design practice.
What started as an opportunity to work alongside her soon became a shared journey of building and growing Scope Unlimited. Coming from a different professional background, Biren brought an engineer’s mindset for perspective rooted in structure, functionality and execution, which gradually became an integral part of the practice.
Over the years, he developed a deep understanding of the way people live and how their needs and expectations from their homes continue to evolve. Having worked with generations of clients, he believes good design is as much about understanding people and their changing lifestyles as it is about aesthetics.
His approach has always been grounded in finding the right balance between design, functionality, practicality, timelines and budgets. This ability to adapt, learn and evolve with every project has shaped his journey as a designer. In his own words, the profession is a constant process of learning, unlearning and relearning.
